M. Elizabeth Williams turns RED for World AIDS Day

M. Elizabeth Williams and Girl + Camera are going RED today in support of World AIDS Day. Any sitting booked today will have 20% of the profits donated to the Hyacinth AIDS Foundation. The Hyacinth AIDS Foundation is New Jersey’s first and largest AIDS service organization with six offices located throughout the State, serving over 15,000 people annually with direct care, treatment, education, and prevention. Hyacinth is the only organization in New Jersey with a dedicated public policy and community organizing staff dedicated to protect the rights and benefits of people living with HIV/AIDS in New Jersey.

AIDS is not a "gay" disease. It is not a "minority" disease. Unlike human beings, AIDS does not discriminate based on age, race, sex, or sexual preference. AIDS no longer is a death sentence in the United States thanks to organizations like Hyacinth, but it is still an epidemic in developing nations, especially those in Africa. Because it is not understood, AIDS now takes a back seat to many people in favor of cancer or other diseases that aren't sexually transmitted because of the stigma--especially in America--about sex.
